Installs of Apps Jump 15%

Since the onset of the outbreak App publishers and mobile advertisers have questioned what effect the Covid-19 pandemic will have on their business. According to research by AppsFlyer, organic installs grew by almost 15% between February and March 2020.

Research revealed the categories with the highest spikes include communication, utilities, and finance. App categories that are also benefitting include news apps, health & fitness, music, and shopping apps. While travel and maps & navigation have greatly suffered.

Publishers Witnessing Traffic Spikes

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in web traffic increases of around 60 percent for some online news publishers, according to a report by Parse.ly.

The Parse.ly network includes over 3,000 sites, such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, NBC and more.

Compared to an average of 159 million content views for the previous six Thursdays, Parse.ly reported that it had counted upwards of 255.9 million content views last Thursday across its network of more than 3,000 media sites.

Facebook Bans Ads Related to Pandemic

Facebook will be ramping up its ban on COVID-19-related ads. In addition to masks, Facebook is now banning ads for hand sanitizer, surface disinfecting wipes and COVID-19 testing kits. The efforts are an attempt to prevent price inflation for high-demand health products, curtail the spread of misinformation and malicious attacks.

Other tech platforms, including Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit and YouTube have similar initiatives to fight against misinformation and malicious activity related to COVID-19.
